SUNDAY January 1st 2012
As there was a large group of us, it was decided to hire a hall to have church services in. The morning service was scheduled for 10am and the afternoon service at 1pm. Everyone took food along and we had a pot luck for lunch.
Then after the afternoon service a few people went four wheel driving out in the dunes near Cape Le Grande.
MONDAY January 2nd 2012
Originally we had booked our site with the intention of leaving on Tuesday. However, since Chris worked a few days extra before Christmas he was able to take a few extra days after. All day Monday we ummed and ahhed about staying a few more days, compared the pros and cons and whatnot. It was possible to jump on the elder Vdl's site (These sites were a massive 30ft by 30ft). At the end of the day we decided that yes we would stay.The girls decided that it would be a good idea to go for breakfast without the boys and kids ... we had a great time :)
After our kids had had sleeps, we decided to go around town and do a few things including visiting the museum and miniature train. We thought Lucas would like the train as he is obsessed with Thomas the Tank Engine - but it wasn't to be. He clung to me nearly the whole way around!
The museum we went to was huge - with displays about boating, vehicles, pioneers and settlers and more recent times. It had everything from good china to telephones to locomotives to typewriters. It was extremely interesting and even our kids were fascinated. It was just a pity we didn't have more time in there!
In the afternoon Chris went fishing with some of the wider group down at 11 Mile Beach. I stayed at home with the kids and after dinner I had a fellow CDH mum come for visit. She lives in the Margaret River area but was on holidays in Esperance too and was staying in the same caravan park!! We had seen each other a few times already in the ablution blocks, but she wanted to come around for a proper talk :)
TUESDAY January 3rd 2012
In the morning we packed up our tent in preparation to move it to the other site. After this was done, the group went their separate ways again. We had been planning to drive back to Cape Le Grande via the main road, however Chris was asked by Paul if he was interested in going on a scenic plane trip. Frank, both of the elder Vdl's and Paul were already going and there was one spot left. Since no one else was going to go, Chris said yes. The photos look amazing!! But I have only added a few as many photos were taken as RAW files and are too large for the blog, and I cant be bothered changing them LOL.
That night we took our kids and went to visit my aunty, uncle and cousins. It was good seeing them again and they loved catching up and meeting Lucas and Tahnee :)
WEDNESDAY January 4th 2012
Myself, my 2 sister-in-laws and my mother-in-law had spotted a day spa the week before and made an appointment for this day. Rachel and mum had massages and facials, while Katie and I opted for pedicures. As it was a morning of relaxation, no photos were taken, but I can say that I now have teal green toe nails :)After our beauty treatments we went out for a drink and some lunch, before heading back to camp. The afternoon was spent cleaning up and packing things away.
THURSDAY January 5th 2012
In the morning we packed up our tents and bags and loaded up the trailers. We headed to MacDonald's for breakfast and pulled out of Esperance just before 10am. We were driving back to Perth with the elder Vdl's and pulled their trailer again. The Kramers were travelling part of the same route and we all left together. The Janssen's were taking their time going back and had made arrangements to spend the night in one of the country towns.Us and the elder Vdl's stopped for fuel and lunch at Lake King. While we were eating in the pub we saw two of our cousins come in. They had been stranded on the side of the road and ended up waiting for 3 hours to get a tyre replaced!! And to top it off they got caught in a rain storm that was passing through.
From Lake King we headed through the towns of Lake Grace, Dumbleyoung, Newdegate and made another stop in Wagin. Tahnee needed another feed and we also need to fuel up.
We made the rest of the journey home via Albany Highway, very familiar territory, and arrived back at the elder Vdl's around 7pm. Since it was pretty late we grabbed Subway for dinner. We left the trailer packed with the intention of coming back in the morning to unload it. We headed over to our house (a 5 min drive away) and unpacked our car. We did a little clean up before retiring to the comfort of our beds!
The next morning we headed back to the Vdl's to unload to trailer only to discover it had already been done!!
It has now been a few days since arriving back home and we have only our memories and photographs of our holiday. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves down in the coastal town of Esperance. We hope you all enjoyed our (rather lengthy) monologues of our trip and the photos :)
