Tahnee: abdomen update

As you may know, Tahnee has a second hernia - a protruding, abdominal one. It causes her to have a lump on her left hand side (the same side as her CDH). Its not very visible with clothes on, but is very prominent when naked. She has had this hernia since being an in-patient at PMH. At first the doctors were worried and she has been for 2 Ultrasounds and 1 X-ray. Then, back in December last year we heard from her paediatrician and her surgeon that it was another hernia and that it should go away with time.

When we were preparing for he 8 months check up in April this year, we noted that the hernia had not changed in size. We consulted with her paediatrician (this time one from KEMH who was on exchange with our regular paed), and he said not to worry, it would go away with time and if it was still present by the time she went to school, then we would get it operated on. We were okay with this diagnosis, and at least knew what to expect in the longer term,

So that was the background about Tahnee's second hernia. Fast forward to this month ... About a week ago I was getting Tahnee ready for her bath and had her laying on a change mat, on the ground in the bathroom ( usually change her on her change table). Having her in this position made me notice her abdominal lump ... and I realised that it had started to go down!! :)

All of her crawling, sitting and pulling herself up to stand has helped and her hernia has started to heal on its own :) We are pretty excited!!

And to prove it, compare the two photos below. The one on the LHS was taken in very early November, 2011, and the RHS photo was taken just last week.

p.s. Tahnee's scar is healing well too, as you can see by comparing the top, LHS photo with the one below :)
